Washington Post social rebrand + design

I was The Washington Post’s first Instagram designer and shaped @washingtonpost’s visual identity from 2021-2026. Working closely with design and social editors, I achieved brand consistency between social content and The Post’s website by building a Photoshop template suite, art directing the redesign of a tool that editors used to generate cards for social platforms, writing style guide documentation, and operating as a social design resource for the entire design team.

I influenced The Post’s Instagram coverage by adapting breaking news, investigative stories and large-scale projects into custom-designed posts every week; executing frequent template refreshes; and updating social style guide documentation as needed.

Social post design
I designed thousands of Instagram posts over the years. Here are some of my favorites. Click each image to view it on Instagram.

Template design
I built and continued to update the majority of the templates used by several Post Instagram accounts: @washingtonpost, @postopinions, @postpolitics, @poststyle, @postclimate and @postsports. These templates were the starting point for every post we shared.
